The Fifth Switzerland puzzle

1/800 000

Is there such a thing as the typical Swiss Abroad, or the average Swiss Abroad? Not really, as they are defined by their variety: the “Fifth Switzerland” is a colourful, varied and multilingual puzzle with well over 800,000 pieces.

The “Swiss Review” editorial team is now compiling a snapshot of the immense puzzle into a picture with its series “The Fifth Switzerland puzzle: 1/800 000”.

We use short interviews with Swiss Abroad from all over the world as puzzle parts. All the interviews have been included in this “Swiss Review” dossier since the summer of 2025. The regional editorial teams also publish selected puzzle parts in their print edition.

We translate some short interviews into the four “Swiss Review” languages. However, we normally publish the interviews in the original language, to underline the multilingual nature of the Fifth Switzerland.

Would you like to join in and answer some interview questions?
If so, you should first contact the editorial team for your region.
The central editorial team in Berne is also available to answer questions: revue@swisscommunity.org
