The “Fifth Switzerland” is a colourful, varied and multilingual puzzle with well over 800,000 pieces. Today’s puzzle piece is …
… Christine Bonhote-Mead, 74 years, Australia. In 1980, she came as a ski instructor to Charlotte's Pass and met her husband. They had twin daughters who both live in Switzerland, one in Geneva, the other in Médière in Val de Bagnes, Valais. The family has always spoken French.

Do you often think about relocating again?
I would love to move back but financially it's not possible, unfortunately.
What references to Switzerland do you have in your house?
In our house we have several objects coming from Switzerland, a Bern table with a stone in the middle, two hats from the costume of Evolène, Val d'Hérens, Valais, the Alp horn, a Neuchâtel clock and old skis from my mum and grand-mum and many pictures.
Switzerland and you: What is your current relationship status?
I still have relatives and friends in Switzerland and our daughters live there. I miss them all a lot. I also miss the mountains and the lakes.

Is regularly meeting other Swiss people important to you?
Here I belong to the Alliance Francaise and the book club, the leader is “Valaisanne”. My best friend is from Neuchâtel. I found it easier to communicate with Swiss people because we have something to relate. But Australia is now my country. In both my parents’ family people emigrated to Australia in the 1930 with their grape wine trunk in their luggage!
