The Swiss in Greece
Around 3,300 Swiss nationals live in Greece. The majority – just over 50% – live in Athens, with the rest spread across the mainland and islands.

The Swiss Club of Athens, which is affiliated with the New Helvetic Society (NHG), is the only Swiss club in Athens. The Swiss Association was founded on 6 April 1891. Many Swiss nationals originally came to Greece because of a relationship, either personal or professional.
The community shrank somewhat during the COVID pandemic, but fortunately it has grown by around 300 members over the past two years. The influx of young couples with families is particularly welcome.

Swiss community life
Community life is mainly based around regular neighbourhood get-togethers over coffee. Annual events include a cocktail party at the start of the winter season in late November, a St. Nicholas event with a children's party around 6 December, a Christmas party around 20 December, and a raffle in early January with the traditional cutting of the Greek pitta.
There is also a raclette evening, plus two cultural excursions in summer and two in winter. Most of these events take place in the “Foyer Suisse” in the centre of Athens.
A special highlight is the Swiss National Day celebration, which is held in mid-June at the Swiss Embassy residence. The programme is complemented by a variety of events such as concerts, wine tastings, and film screenings. Every two years, the general assembly is held at the Embassy residence.
