Die Fünfte Schweiz wächst weiter

Die Zahl der im Ausland lebenden Schweizerinnen und Schweizer ist auch 2019 weiter gestiegen. Per Ende Jahr lag sie bei 770 900 Personen. Somit ist die Fünfte Schweiz um rund 1,4 Prozent gewachsen. Gemäss der Auslandschweizerstatistik des Bundes leben weiterhin die meisten Auslandschweizerinnen und -schweizer in Europa, nämlich deren 484 300 (63 Prozent). Innerhalb Europas leben die allermeisten in Frankreich (199 800), gefolgt von Deutschland (92 200), Italien (49 800), Grossbritannien (35 200) und Spanien (24 200). Das EU-Land mit der stärksten Zuwachsrate war 2019 aber Portugal (+11,6 Prozent). 286 000 Auslandschweizerinnen und -schweizer leben auf einem anderen Kontinent, namentlich Amerika (24 Prozent), Asien (7 Prozent), Australien und Ozeanien (4 Prozent) und Afrika (2 Prozent).

    I've been living abroad for more than half of my life and was appalled by the treatment I was submitted to by the Banks of our country. It seems impossible for me to open and maintain an account with a Bank in Switzerland and get a convenient deal for my deposits. To my astonishment they asked me to pay for this service... I called several Banks, also the Bank of my Canton, they all have prohibitive rates for savings accounts belonging to citizens living abroad. I don't have dual Nationality, nor would I ever apply for citizenship in my host country. Not because I'm so proud to be Swiss, it just isn't interesting for me to do so. I think it is scandalous to be betrayed and penalized at the behest of a foreign state, and we all know what I'm talking about here, by my own government just because I chose to live abroad.
