Celebrating 1 August differently together

This year, our 1 August celebrations won’t be quite the usual fare. This has been a special year, where more than ever before we have felt the importance of closeness, ties and solidarity, including virtual communities. Together with the Consular Directorate, Presence Switzerland is therefore organising a virtual meeting place for the Swiss abroad, along with lovers of all things Swiss, where they can swap ideas and celebrate together.

The multilingual and interactive website, which will go live on 15 July, has a wide range of content: recipes, Swiss music playlists, a quiz, ideas for decorations, as well as guides for traditional activities like yodelling and flag throwing. On the day itself, the speech by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, will be live-streamed from the Rütli.
