Pascal Roger Couchepin

Pascal Roger Couchepin

Pascal Roger Couchepin was born in Martigny on 5 April 1942. A Swiss politician, he is a member of the Liberal-Radical Party and served as a Federal Councillor from 1998 to 2009. He has twice held the position of President of the Swiss Confederation: in 2003 and 2008. 


 

Sylviane Berthod

Sylviane Berthod

Sylviane Berthod was born in Salins on 25 April 1977. This Alpine skier retired from her active sports career at the end of the 2007–08 season. Junior World Champion in downhill skiing in 1995 and in Super G in 1996, she has also won the Swiss championship four times.


 

Jean Zermatten

Jean Zermatten

Jean Zermatten was born in Sion/Sitten on 2 March 1948. A qualified lawyer, he currently sits on the United Nations Human Rights Council, where he holds the position of Vice-President. He is the Council’s first Swiss member. In 1995 he founded the International Institute for the Rights of the Child (IDE), in the village of Bramois, near Sion. Jean Zermatten has been involved in the preparation of several laws and draft legislation at national level.


 

César Ritz

César Ritz

César Ritz was born in Ritzingen, in the Upper Valais, on 23 February 1850. He died on 26 October 1918. This hotelier and entrepreneur, was the first to develop the market for luxury hotels. He was able to woo a wealthy clientele and quickly gained a reputation as a gentleman of good taste. He cultivated the great and the good of this world as his customers, including aristocrats and crowned heads.
