Dr. Markus Hodel as Secretary of State is the head of Lucerne's Cantonal Administration. He invites all citizens of Lucerne living abroad to join in Swiss political life.

On 16 March 2010 the Cantonal Parliament of Lucerne, at the first reading of the bill on the subject, approved the introduction of e-voting on a trial basis. If this decision is confirmed on the second reading, the Canton's citizens abroad (who number around 3400) could be able to cast their votes electronically for the first time as early as November 2010.
