A canton's life can also be expressed in figures, percentages, kilograms, population statistics and many other units of measurement. These serve to quantify the Canton's development at a variety of levels. The Canton of Lucerne covers an area of 1,493.5 square kilometers, of which only 8.4% is developed. A little over half of its land (54.7%) is farmed, 30.1% consists of woodland and forest, while 6.8% is classified as "unproductive" by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.

  • 90 music groups from Lucerne City and the municipalities of Greater Lucerne have come together under the umbrella "United Guugemusig Lucerne" to form the biggest carnival band in Central Switzerland.
