Glarus: Education
The education programme runs from nursery school up through maturity exams and vocational education. The well-structured school system makes it easy to fulfil the compulsory nine years of school. A tenth year of school can be used for professional training. At the Kantonsschule Glarus (the Glarus Cantonal School), the Swiss school-leaving certificate can be obtained. Vocational training opportunities are numerous. There is a nursing school as well as vocational schools for industrial, commercial and catering education. There are training programmes for over 100 types of professions. In addition, the Canton of Glarus is involved with various further education schools, colleges, technical schools and technical colleges all over Switzerland. Talented athletes can complete their lower secondary education at the Netstal Sports School, where training programmes are accredited and developed. The “Volkshochschule” (adult education) association offers lectures and courses, especially during the winter months.
