Appenzell Innerrhoden: Politics

Chancellor Markus Dörig is Head of Appenzell Innerrhoden's cantonal administration. The Canton is one of only two Swiss Cantons (the other being Glarus) which organizes a "Landsgemeinde" or people's assembly every year. This is a meeting of members of the direct assembly of citizens. They gather to vote on amendments to laws proposed by the cantonal government and its various commissions. The Canton's citizens meet every last Sunday in April in a square in the village of Appenzell. The Canton's nest "Landsgemeinde" will be on 29th April 2012.
